Alexandra Stoian

Alexandra Stoian (until 2008 Alexandra Rusu ; born August 5, 1983 in Bran , Brașov County ) is a former Romanian biathlete .

The student Alexandra Stoian lives in her native town of Bran. She has been biathlon since 1993 and has been part of the Romanian national team since 1997. She starts for SC Dinamo Brașov , where she was trained by Gheorghe Gârniță . Stoian had a comparatively long career in the junior sector. She competed in 1999 in Pokljuka , 2000 in Hochfilzen , 2002 in Ridnaun , 2003 in Kościelisko and 2004 in Haute-Maurienne at the Junior World Championships. She achieved good, if not excellent, results several times. In 2002, she finished tenth in the pursuit and ninth in the sprint. She also achieved the latter placement a year later. Stoian took part in their first European Junior Championships in 2000 in Zakopane . This was followed in 2001 in Haute Maurienne, 2002 in Kontiolahti , 2003 in Forni Avoltri and 2004 in Minsk . Already in 2001 she was able to achieve very good results as sixth in the pursuit and fourth in the relay. But her best Junior European Championship was her last. She won bronze in the singles, finished seventh in the sprint and fifth in the pursuit. At the Senior European Championships in Langdorf in 2006 and in Bansko in 2007 , the relay results were best (10th / 8th).

In 1999 Stoian made his debut in Hochfilzen in the biathlon world cup (90th in individual). Her best result in a pure World Cup individual race was a 45th place in an individual in Pokljuka in the 2007/08 season . Better placements, including among the top ten, she achieved several times with the relay. The best result in 2005 was seventh place at the pre-Olympic competition in Cesana San Sicario , achieved with her long-term relay partners Dana Plotogea , Éva Tófalvi and Mihaela Purdea . Multiple, first in 2005 in Hochfilzen and 2007 in Antholz from Romania to took Biathlon World Championships in part. She achieved her best results with the season, in 2005 14th and 2007 eleventh.

The Career highlights Stoians were the 2002 Olympic Games of Salt Lake City and in 2006 from Turin . In 2002 she only competed in the sprint and was there 72nd, 2006 in the individual (68th), sprint (45th), the pursuit (lapped by Kati Wilhelm ) and 14th with the relay. In 2008 the next World Cup participation followed in Östersund , where 45th place was the best result in the individual. In 2009 Stoian achieved her first point win in the World Cup with 29th place in the sprint in Pyeongchang . She finished the pursuit race as 57th, in the individual the Romanian ran in 68th place and with the relay she came in eighth place. In Pokljuka, Stoian was able to improve her best World Cup result as 24th of the sprint. Alexandra Stoian took part in the 2010 Winter Olympics. Her best result was 85th place in the individual. It was her only start in Vancouver.
