Gheorghe Gârniță (born November 11, 1950 in Măgura , Brașov County ) is a former Romanian biathlete and current biathlon trainer. As the only biathlete in his country, he won a medal at the biathlon world championships .

Gheorghe Gârniță celebrated his greatest success at the Biathlon World Championships 1974 in Minsk , where he won the silver medal behind the Finn Juhani Suutarinen and in front of the Norwegian Tor Svendsberget . He benefited from his good shooting performance, like the winner Gârniță only shot one mistake. Two years later he took part in the Winter Olympics in Innsbruck and finished 31st in the individual and tenth in the relay alongside Nicolae Cristoloveanu , Gheorghe Voicu and Victor Fontana as the final runner. After his active career, Gârniță first became a coach at SC Dinamo Brașov , where he looked after Dana Cojocea , Alexandra Stoian and Marian Blaj, among others . In 2008 he was a trainer at CSS Dinamo Râşnov .
