Mihaela Purdea

Sabina Mihaela Purdea (born December 17, 1982 in Bistrița , Bistrița-Năsăud County ) is a former Romanian biathlete .

Mihaela Purdea has been practicing biathlon since 2001, since 2003 as a member of the Romanian national team. In 2002 she made her international debut as part of the Junior European Cup. A year later Purdea was used for the first time in the Biathlon European Cup . It was not until 2005 that it was used in Oberhof for the first time in a relay race (13th) and in the sprint (74th) as part of the Biathlon World Cup . In the same year she reached her best international result as seventh with the relay in the pre-Olympic race of San Sicario together with her long-time relay partners Dana Plotogea , Éva Tófalvi and Alexandra Rusu . The Romanian ran her best individual race so far in the 2009/10 season in Östersund as 25th in an individual race.

Purdea's first major international event was the 2005 Biathlon World Championships in Hochfilzen . Here a 14th place with the relay was her best result. A year later the Romanian came in three races at the 2006 Olympic Winter Games of Turin in San Sicario. In the individual she was 75th, in the pursuit 77th and with these results she could neither qualify for the pursuit nor for the mass start. With the season she came in 14th place. The European Championship of the same year brought placements around 25th place in the individual, sprint and pursuit. A year later in Bansko she reached placements between 16 and 19 and was eighth with the relay. Apart from an eleventh place with the relay, the Biathlon World Championships 2007 in Antholz did not go well and only brought bad results with 60th place in the individual as the best result. The 2008 Biathlon World Championships in Östersund got better . Purdea ran 53rd in the singles, 48th in the sprint, 47th in the pursuit and was eleventh in the relay. In 2009 the Romanian took part in her fourth World Cup. With 44th place in the individual, she achieved her best ever World Championship result; she could not finish the pursuit race as a lap. In the singles she reached place 75, with the relay she ran to eighth place. Mihaela Purdea took part in the 2010 Winter Olympics. Her best result was 39th place in the sprint. With the relay she finished 10th. Then she started at the Summer Biathlon World Championships 2010 in Duszniki-Zdrój and ended her active career after eleventh place in sprint and 26th in pursuit.

After her active career, Purdea became a trainer in Predeal . In 2016 she gave birth to her first child with a daughter in Brașov .
