Rudolf Houdek

Rudolf Houdek (born December 16, 1913 in Aussig ; † January 3, 2008 in Munich ) was a German sausage manufacturer and patron. He was the founder and co-owner of the large butcher's shop Rudolf and Robert Houdek GmbH in Starnberg . Until his death he was a member of the administrative board of FC Bayern Munich .

Career

Houdek was born as one of nine children of master butcher Robert Houdek and grew up in Aussig (today Ústí nad Labem / Czech Republic ). There he attended elementary and community school. Later he took over together with his brother Robert jun. his father's company, which employs around 300 people. After the end of the Second World War, in the course of which the butcher's shop was largely destroyed, the family was expelled from Bohemia . The two brothers parted ways. While Robert went to Eisenach in Thuringia , Rudolf Houdek came to Bavaria.

Initially he made his living as an unskilled worker at the Munich slaughterhouse . In 1949 he went into business for himself and opened a butcher's shop in Starnberg. Their specialty was the original Houdek Kabanos , with which he hit the taste buds of the population. Shortly after the business was founded, Houdek's brother Robert came to Bavaria to jointly set up a regional sales organization for Kabanos. He soon opened his own chain of stores in the Starnberg area. Today, Houdek is one of the leading food companies in Bavaria with production facilities in Starnberg, Glonn and the meanwhile largest location in Arzberg . Around 820 people are employed and the annual turnover is € 146 million.

In addition to his entrepreneurial activity, Houdek supported the soccer club FC Bayern Munich, to which he had been a member since July 1, 1961. Until his death, he was the longest-serving member of the management board of the association.
