Rhabanus Petri

Rhabanus Petri OSB (born February 1, 1963 in Bodenheim ) is a German religious, singer and member of the classical and church music group Die Priester . Until July 2017 he was abbot of Schweiklberg Abbey .

Rhabanus Petri entered the novitiate of the Upper Bavarian Archabbey of Sankt Ottilien in 1982 . He studied theology at the Philosophical-Theological College of the Cistercians in Heiligenkreuz near Vienna and in Friborg, Switzerland. In 1990 he was ordained a priest . Petri worked for two years as an educator and religious teacher in Sankt Ottilien. From 1992 to 2000 he headed the St. Georg youth center on Jakobsberg near Bingen. After several years of activity in adult education, he returned to Sankt Ottilien and was novice master from 2004 to 2007.

From June 2007 to July 2017 he was abbot of the Benedictine abbey Schweiklberg in Vilshofen on the Danube . He then returned to his home monastery in Sankt Ottilien to live there again as a simple member of the convent and to work in pastoral care. Since November 1, 2018, he has headed Jakobsberg Priory as Prior .

Petri plays the organ and tuba . He sings the second voice and backings in the singing group Die Priester .
