profile

His thinking revolves around conveying Christianity and modernity, mysticism, psychology and philosophy, the phenomenology of life and experience, experience and language. His main works are Modern Times and Revelation (Rome 1986) and The Divided Logos (Rome 1992). In the former he tries to develop a grammar of revelation, modernity, dialogue and prayer with a view to renewing the doctrine of the Trinity. The second book is more fundamentally theologically oriented and wants to rethink and conjugate Christianity from the point of view of its external controversy and description. It is based on Kant, Hegel, Jewish and postmodern thinking and in this confrontation finds surprising traces of the presence of the mysteries of Christianity for the present day. In his Italian writings Salmann deepens and orchestrates these basic insights and develops a style of wisdom-symbolic theology. From 1989 to 2001 he was dean of the Philosophical Faculty at Ateneo Sant'Anselmo and during this time he founded the Institute for Philosophy and Mysticism with Aniceto Molinaro. At the same time he was involved in the establishment of the Institute for the History of Theology at the local theological faculty.
