from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Willibald Hauthaler OSB (real name Kaspar Hauthaler , born January 5, 1843 in Nussdorf am Haunsberg , † December 10, 1922 in Salzburg ) was abbot of the Benedictine monastery of St. Peter in Salzburg and a historian.

Life

The son of the farmers Maximilian and Elisabeth Hauthaler attended the private high school Borromäum and in 1862 entered the Archbishopric of St. Peter. From 1866 to 1869 he studied theology in Salzburg and from 1872 to 1874 at the University of Innsbruck with Julius von Ficker and Karl Friedrich Stumpf-Brentano history and geography.

In 1901 he was elected 82nd abbot of the monastery. At the same time he was born President of the Austrian Benedictine Congregation v. St. Joseph . During his tenure, as a result of the First World War, which the Austro-Hungarian monarchy had lost, the monastery began to suffer financially (drawing large amounts in war bonds).
