Dominicus Meier OSB (* 10. July 1959 in Heggen as Michael Meier ) is auxiliary bishop in Paderborn and retired abbot of Abbey Königsmünster in Meschede .

Life

After graduating from the Clemens-Hofbauer College in Bad Driburg and a brief experience as Justice Secretary , he joined in 1982 in the Benedictine Abbey Königsmünster, took the religious name of Dominicus at, studied in Wuerzburg and Muenster theology and was then in Salzburg in canon law doctorate . From 1989 to 1991 he was a diocesan judge at the diocesan court in Salzburg, completed his habilitation in canon law in 1999 and has been a full professor of canon law at the Pallottine Order College in Vallendar since 2000 . He also served from 1992 to 2001 employees at the Archbishop's Offizialat the Archdiocese of Paderborn as marriage defender of the bond and since 1994 as a promoter of justice . Since August 30, 2013 he has been an official in the Archdiocese of Paderborn as successor to Wilhelm Hentze .

Dominicus was elected to his office as the third abbot of the Mesched Abbey of Königsmünster on August 31, 2001 for a period of twelve years. Abbot Dominicus received on 6 October 2001 by the then Archbishop Johannes Joachim Cardinal Degenhardt the Abtsbenediktion . His motto as abbot was Per Christum congregamur - Through Christ we are brought together . His term of office ended on Pentecost Sunday, May 19, 2013 with his resignation. On June 8, 2013, Father Aloysius Althaus was elected as his successor . In the Abbey of Königsmünster he was for many years the representative of the school administration at the abbey’s own grammar school and as such was primarily responsible for the school’s financial issues. Because of his special knowledge of canon and religious law, Dominicus is a frequently requested advisor to many religious orders .

On September 1, 2013, he was appointed official of the Archdiocese of Paderborn by Archbishop Hans-Josef Becker .

Dominicus Meier is involved in numerous social projects in the Holy Land . In 2008 he was appointed Grand Officer of the Order of Knights of the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem by Cardinal Grand Master John Patrick Cardinal Foley and invested in the order on October 25, 2008 in Erfurt Cathedral by Archbishop Reinhard Marx , Grand Prior of the German Lieutenancy . From 2012 to 2017 he was Prior of the Commandery St. Benedikt Meschede of the Papal Lay Order.

On 15 July 2015 it appointed Pope Francis to the titular bishop of Castro di Sardegna and auxiliary bishop in Paderborn. Archbishop Hans-Josef Becker donated him the episcopal ordination on September 27th of the same year in Paderborn Cathedral . Co-consecrators were the Paderborn auxiliary bishops Manfred Grothe and Matthias König .

He is a member of the Commission for Spiritual Professions and Church Services as well as the Commission for Education and School of the German Bishops' Conference .
