Manfred Grothe (* 4. April 1939 in Warburg ) is a Roman Catholic priest and emeritus auxiliary bishop in the archdiocese of Paderborn and emeritus dean of Paderborn. From March 26, 2014 to September 18, 2016, he was Apostolic Administrator of the Diocese of Limburg .

Life

After graduating from high school in 1960 at the Marianum High School in Warburg, he studied theology and philosophy in Paderborn , Münster and Munich . Ordained a priest in 1967 by Archbishop Lorenz Cardinal Jaeger in Paderborn , he was then chaplain in Rietberg and Witten , where he also worked as a religion teacher from 1969 to 1972. Since 1972 President of the Kolping Family , in 1978 he moved to the Paderborn General Vicariate, where he worked as an assessor and department head . Appointed Ordinariate in 1979 , he received the title of Honorary Chaplain to His Holiness ( Monsignor ) in 1982 and the title of Papal Honorary Prelate in 1988 .

In 1982 he was elected to the supervisory board of the loan office in the Archdiocese of Paderborn eG . In 2002 he took over the chairmanship of the supervisory board.

Since 1989 deputy vicar general , Archbishop Hans-Josef Becker appointed him vicar general on September 28, 2003. Raised Apostolic Protonotary in 2004 , Pope John Paul II appointed him titular bishop of Hippo Diarrhytus and auxiliary bishop in Paderborn on October 14, 2004 . He received the episcopal ordination on December 5th of the same year together with the auxiliary bishop Matthias König from Paderborn's Archbishop Hans-Josef Becker. Co-consecrators were the auxiliary bishop emeritus Paul Consbruch and the then auxiliary bishop Karl-Heinz Wiesemann .

On November 1, 2007, Auxiliary Bishop Manfred Grothe was appointed cathedral dean of the Metropolitan Chapter at Paderborn Cathedral . This office put Grothe down on 18 December 2009, as he of the Congregation for the Clergy of the Vatican to the Visitor for the Pontifical Relief Church in Need has been ordered. On March 1, 2013 he was elected Provost of the Cathedral.

On October 24, 2013, the German Bishops' Conference (DBK) announced that Grothe was head of the commission set up by the DBK to investigate the cost increases in the construction of the bishop's residence in the Limburg diocese . On March 26, 2014 Pope Francis accepted the resignation of Bishop Franz-Peter Tebartz-van Elst and appointed Grothe as Apostolic Administrator of the Diocese of Limburg. On May 1, 2014, after his age-appropriate resignation and its acceptance by the Archbishop of Paderborn, his office as Provost of the Paderborn Metropolitan Chapter ended.

On July 15, 2015, Pope Francis accepted his age-related resignation as Auxiliary Bishop of Paderborn and at the same time appointed Dominicus Meier OSB as his successor as Auxiliary Bishop in Paderborn. With the ordination of Georg Bätzing as Bishop of Limburg, his office as Apostolic Administrator of Limburg also ended on September 18, 2016.
