Matthias King

Matthias König (born November 3, 1959 in Dortmund ) is a German Roman Catholic clergyman and auxiliary bishop in the Archdiocese of Paderborn .

After graduating from high school in 1978, König studied Catholic theology and philosophy in Paderborn and Freiburg im Breisgau . He was ordained priest on May 25, 1985 from Archbishop Johannes Joachim Degenhardt , who later became cardinal, in Paderborn Cathedral .

König was first vicar in Arnsberg-Neheim , then pastor in Bünde - Holsen , Rödinghausen and in Kirchlengern - Quernheim Abbey since 1996 pastor in Paderborn- Neuhaus Castle . In 2002 he was appointed head of the Neuhaus Castle Pastoral Association. In 2004 he became a member of the Priestly Council of the Archdiocese of Paderborn.

On October 14, 2004, he was named titular bishop of Elicroca by Pope John Paul II and appointed auxiliary bishop in Paderborn. He received the episcopal ordination on December 5, 2004, together with the auxiliary bishop Manfred Grothe , who was appointed on the same day, by Archbishop Hans-Josef Becker in Paderborn Cathedral. Co-consecrators at the episcopal ordination were the auxiliary bishop emeritus Paul Consbruch and the then auxiliary bishop Karl-Heinz Wiesemann .

Archbishop Becker appointed him episcopal vicar for tasks of the universal church and world mission as well as for institutes of consecrated life and for societies of apostolic life. Auxiliary Bishop König is a member of the World Church Commission and its sub-commission for Latin America (especially ADVENIAT) as well as the Migration Commission in the German Bishops' Conference . On December 6, 2007, Archbishop Hans-Josef Becker appointed him resident canon of the Metropolitan Chapter at the High Cathedral in Paderborn .

In 2005 he was appointed Grand Officer of the Order of Knights of the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem by Cardinal Grand Master Carlo Cardinal Furno and invested on October 1, 2005 by Anton Schlembach , Grand Prior of the German Lieutenancy . He is a member of the Catholic student association K.St.V.
