Matthias Koenig

Matthias Koenig (born July 6, 1971 in Hamburg ) is a German sociologist .

Koenig passed the Abitur in 1990 at the Kaiser-Heinrich-Gymnasium Bamberg with a grade of 1.0 and from 1991 studied sociology , Protestant theology and religious studies at the University of Hamburg , Princeton University and the Philipps University of Marburg . In 1997 he passed the master's degree in Marburg .

From 1998 to 2006 Koenig worked as a consultant for the social sciences sector of UNESCO (United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization) in Paris. He also from 1998 to 2003 Researcher of Dirk Kaesler at the University of Marburg, where he in 2003 doctorate was, and from 2003 to 2006 research assistant at Richard Münch at the University of Bamberg . From 2004 to 2008 he completed his cumulative habilitation there . In 2006 Koenig was visiting professor at the Sorbonne in Paris. Since 2006 he has been professor of sociology with a focus on the sociology of religion at the Georg-August-Universität Göttingen .
