Aloysius Althaus
Aloysius Althaus , born Markus Althaus (* 1966 in Berleburg ) is a German religious and abbot of the Benedictine Abbey of Königsmünster in Meschede .
Life
Althaus grew up in Wemlighausen in the Wittgensteiner Land . After graduating from secondary school , he did a one-year internship in a nursing home. From 1985 to 1988 he trained as a nurse at the St. Walburga Hospital in Meschede . On August 28, 1988, he entered Königsmünster Abbey. The first vows followed in 1989. He made his solemn profession in 1990. He then worked as an assistant to the novice master. After a few months of a missionary internship in Tanzania, he continued his studies as part of the Würzburg theological correspondence course . In 1995 he was ordained a permanent deacon . In 1996 he was appointed novice master of the abbey. 2001 appointed him Abbot Dominicus Meier for Subprior . He was also responsible as an infirmar for the care of the elderly and the sick in the abbey. In 2005 he was ordained a priest in the abbey church .
On June 8, 2013, he was elected by the members of the abbey as the fourth abbot of the monastery for a period of twelve years. On July 21, 2013 he received the abbot's benediction from the Archbishop of Paderborn , Hans-Josef Becker . His abbot's motto is Ambulate in dilectione - Walk in love! (Eph 5,2).
In 2018 he was appointed officer of the Papal Order of Knights of the Holy Sepulcher by Grand Master Edwin Frederick Cardinal O'Brien and invested in the order on September 29, 2018 in Paderborn Cathedral by Archbishop Reinhard Cardinal Marx , Grand Prior of the German Lieutenancy . It belongs to the Commandery “St. Benedikt Meschede ”of the Papal Lay Order and is a member of the German Association of the Holy Land .
