Titular diocese of Castro di Sardegna

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Castro di Sardegna ( Latin : Castrum in Sardinia ) is a titular diocese of the Roman Catholic Church .

It goes back to a submerged bishopric in Castro on Sardinia . The bishopric was probably built in Byzantine times. The first documentary evidence of the existence of this diocese does not come from the year 1162 when a bishop named Attone consecrated the church of Santa Maria di Aneleto . The bishopric was assigned to the ecclesiastical province of Sassari . The diocese comprised the sixteen villages still existing today: Alà , Anela , Bantine , Benetutti , Berchidda , Buddusò , Bultei , Monti, Nule , Oschiri , Osidda , Pattada , Orune , Olefà , Urrà , Berchiddeddu and Padru as well as twelve other places - including the bishopric - that no longer exist today (Castro, Balanotti, Bunne, Lerno, Lorzia, Orestelli, Usulufè, Usolvisi, Norvara, Otti, Bulteina, Bidducara). During the late Middle Ages, the seat of the bishop was moved to Bono ; In 1503 it was repealed and the territory was annexed to the diocese of Alghero-Bosa . Today most of the former diocesan area belongs to the territory of the Diocese of Ozieri .
