The diocese Montelíbano ( lat. : Dioecesis Monslibanensis , span. : Diócesis de Montelíbano ) is an in Colombia situated Roman Catholic diocese based in Montelíbano .
history
The diocese of Montelíbano was on June 12, 1924 by Pope Pius XI. established with the Apostolic Constitution of Christ Domini from cessions of territory of the Archdiocese of Cartagena as Apostolic Prefecture Sinú . On January 12, 1931, the Apostolic Prefecture Sinú was by Pius XI. renamed with the Apostolic Constitution Constitutione Apostolica in Apostolic Prefecture Sinú-San Jorge . The Apostolic Prefecture Sinú-San Jorge was founded on March 10, 1950 by Pope Pius XII. raised to the Apostolic Vicariate with the Apostolic Constitution Si evangelicos and renamed the Apostolic Vicariate San Jorge . On November 20, 1954, the Vicariate Apostolic of San Jorge gave up parts of its territory to establish the diocese of Montería .
The Apostolic Vicariate of San Jorge was founded on April 25, 1969 by Pope Paul VI. elevated to a territorial prelature with the Apostolic Constitution Ex quo Deo and renamed the Territorial Prelature Alto Sinú . The Alto Sinú Territorial Prelature was subordinated to the Archdiocese of Cartagena as a suffragan . On December 29, 1998, the territorial prelature Alto Sinú was raised to a diocese by Pope John Paul II with the Apostolic Constitution Ministry totius and renamed the diocese of Montelíbano .
