Luis José Rueda Aparicio (born March 3, 1962 in San Gil ) is a Colombian clergyman and Roman Catholic Archbishop of Bogotá .

Life

Luis José Rueda Aparicio studied philosophy at the seminary of the diocese Socorro y San Gil and theology at the seminary of the archdiocese of Bucaramanga . Bishop Jorge Leonardo Gómez Serna OP donated him to the priestly ordination for the diocese of Socorro y San Gil on November 23, 1989 .

After his ordination he was active in various parishes in pastoral care. After further studies, he obtained a licentiate in moral theology at the Pontifical Alfonsian Academy in Rome . Subsequently, he was professor at the Seminary of Socorro y San Gil, deputy director of the diocesan Caritassekretariat, rector of the diocesan institute for rural development and episcopal vicar for pastoral care.

Pope Benedict XVI appointed him on February 2, 2012 Bishop of Montelíbano . The Apostolic Nuncio in Colombia, Archbishop Aldo Cavalli , donated him episcopal ordination on April 14, 2012 ; Co- consecrators were Ismael Rueda Sierra , Archbishop of Bucaramanga , and Carlos Germán Mesa Ruiz , Bishop of Socorro y San Gil.

Pope Francis appointed him Archbishop of Popayán on May 19, 2018 . The inauguration took place on July 7th of the same year.

On April 25, 2020, Pope Francis appointed him Archbishop of Bogotá. The inauguration took place on June 11 of the same year.
