Peter Ochsenbein

Peter Ochsenbein (* 15. July 1940 in Luterbach , † 13. March 2003 in St. Gallen , of Etziken ) was from 1981 to 2000 pin librarian in St. Gallen.

Ochsenbein had attended grammar school in Schwyz and then studied German, Latin philology and history at the University of Basel . He received his doctorate in 1969 and completed his habilitation in 1987. From 1990 he was a part-time professor for Medieval Studies at the University of Basel. In 1981 he was appointed abbey librarian in St. Gallen. Under his leadership, it opened up to problems of the present, such as forest dieback .

Ochsenbein researched prayer books and forms of piety in the Confederation in the later Middle Ages and published several related works. His work as a monastery librarian included research into the history of the diocese.
