Bede Thum

Beda Thum OSB , born as Kuno Thum , (born December 11, 1901 in Regensburg ; † August 2, 2000 in Schweiklberg ) was a monk of the Benedictine Abbey of Metten and professor of philosophy in Salzburg and Vienna .

biography

After graduating from secondary school in Regensburg, Kuno Thum studied mathematics, philosophy and Catholic theology at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich . In 1922 he entered the Benedictine monastery in Metten and received the religious name Beda when he was professed . He then continued his studies in mathematics and physics at the University of Würzburg , which he completed with a doctorate in mathematics. After only a brief activity as a teacher at the grammar school in Metten, he was appointed professor of philosophy at the Benedictine University of Sant'Anselmo in Rome in 1939 . In 1950 he took on a teaching position at the Catholic Theological Faculty in Salzburg. In 1962 he was appointed professor of philosophy at the Catholic-Theological Faculty of the University of Vienna , where he worked until his retirement in 1972.
