history

Wörnsmühl is of high medieval origin and developed around a mill at the crossing of the Leitzach. Since the late Middle Ages part of the county Hohenwaldeck , it was only in 1734 to the Electorate of Bavaria . The small town experienced an upswing since the 19th century with the expansion of the lignite mines in Miesbach and Hausham .

Around 1500 there was a hammer mill, mill and sawmills in Wörnsmühl. There was also a tunnel access to the former Hausham mine. In the thirties, Wörnsmühl was considered a stronghold of folk song maintenance by the award-winning folk singer duo Sontheim-Burda.

The formerly independent municipality Wörnsmühl consisted of the main town Wörnsmühl and the hamlets Bärenschützklamm , Bemberg , Brandstatt , Brunnfeld , Drachenthal , Eben , Grabenau , Grandau , Hoh , Holzer , fiefdom , East , criers , barn , Steinberg and Sulzgraben and was on January 1, In 1976, as part of the municipal reform, it was largely incorporated into the municipality of Fischbachau, Bärenschütz, Bemberg, Holzer, Lehen, Steinberg and Sulzgraben were incorporated into Miesbach .
