history

Niklasreuth is referred to as Reuth in 1315 and is mentioned for the first time referring to clearing in the 11th or 12th century. The Mairhof is founded on this clearing by a Kuno von Route (Reut). His companion Rudwan is also said to have settled on this clearing. The construction of the first church in Niklasreuth is not documented. However, a report by Christoph Socher, pastor of Irschenberg, shows that the church tower in Niklasreuth was already in disrepair in 1605. Construction of today's church began in 1694. For this purpose, 80 fathoms of tuff were cut. On August 14, 1697, the newly built church was consecrated by the Bishop of Freising .
