Wilparting is a district of the Upper Bavarian municipality of Irschenberg . It is an old pilgrimage site on the Irschenberg of the same name.

history

The place goes back to the missionaries Marinus and Anian . The traveling bishop Marinus lived in Wilparting and, according to tradition, suffered a martyr's death here in 697, while his nephew, the deacon Anian, died of natural causes in his cell nearby in Alb.

Attractions

Many motorists traveling south perceive the Wilparting pilgrimage church with the restaurant next door as a “postcard motif”, which can also be seen when driving past on the A8 Munich - Salzburg. The disruption of this idyll by the construction of a McDonald's branch on the line of sight was taken up by the director Thomas Kronthaler in his debut work The Hypocrites .

The age of the St. Marinus linden tree in the village was estimated to be 750 years in 2012.
