occupation

Die Scheinheiligen is a satirical homeland film by Thomas Kronthaler , which satirizes the real construction of a fast-food restaurant on Irschenberg in the Bavarian way.

action

The old widow Magdalena Trenner owns a piece of land near the motorway on which a fast-food restaurant with a motorway feeder is to be built. However, she does not want to give this out so lightly and with the help of the wood carver Johannes, the asylum seeker Theophile and the local boy scouts she manages to keep the mayor and his guys in check. In the course of the film, Magdalena, initially neglected, blossoms. She gains new zest for life through the presence of the petty criminal Johannes and the homeless Theophile. The film exposes resentment towards strangers or Bavarian nepotism without raising the index finger.

background

Thomas Kronthaler achieved a small box office success in Bavaria with his graduation film at the Munich University of Television and Film . Around 180,000 moviegoers saw the film. Marcus H. Rosenmüller , who graduated from the Munich Film School in the year under Kronthaler, therefore later called The Hypocrites a trailblazer for his successful film Who dies earlier is longer dead .

The hypocrite is based on real events in Kronthaler's homeland. The special thing about this work is that the residents of the Irschenberg community fully supported the student film. The film was shot at the original locations.
