Marinus (Wilparting)
Marinus († November 15, 697 ) was an Irish Scottish wandering bishop and is a saint of the Roman Catholic Church . His church feast day is celebrated on November 15th.
Life
Marinus and Anianus were contemporaries of Saints Kilian , Korbinian and Rupert . According to legend, they came to Rome as monks and were received by Pope Eugene I , who consecrated Marinus as traveling bishop and Anianus as deacon . As messengers of faith they came to the Irschenberg area above Aibling and northeast of Miesbach . Here they lived for more than 40 years as a hermit, Marinus in Wilparting , Anian in the nearby Alb. Legend has it that Marinus was murdered and burned by looting vandals . At the same time Anian died of natural causes in his cell in Alb. There are churches above the two places of death, which are one of the oldest Christian places of worship in the Bavarian Oberland . The church, which houses the burial place of Saints Marinus and Anian in Wilparting (municipality of Irschenberg ), is one of the most characteristic photo motifs in Bavaria.
