Ladies European Tour

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Ladies European Tour (LET for short) is an annual series of golf tournaments for professional golfers . It is mainly held in Europe , but also in Australia , South Africa and Dubai .

The tournament series was introduced in 1979 and has since had great difficulty establishing itself alongside the very popular American women's tournament series LPGA Tour . In 2011 , the LET held 27 tournaments (one of which was in Germany ) with a total prize money of around 11 million euros. The two most important tournaments by far, the Masters in France and the Women's British Open in England , were held together with the American LPGA.

qualification

In addition to various exceptions, the 90 most successful players from the previous year generally receive a tour ticket for the next season. The decisive factor here is the money ranking, the so-called Order of Merit . All other professional golfers have to take part in a multi-level qualification tournament, the LET Qualifying School, and take one of the first 30 places there.

Winner of the Order of Merit and other awards

The Order of Merit is given to the leaders of the tour's money list , with a point system being used in a few years.
The tour members choose the player who, in their opinion, has contributed most to the success of the tour as Player of the Year .
The Rookie of the Year Award (also known as the Bill Johnson Trophy from 1999 to 2003 and now the Ryder Cup Wales Rookie of the Year ) is awarded to the player who achieved the best finish in the first year as a professional Order of Merit confirmed .
