George Eckstein

George Eckstein (born May 3, 1928 in Los Angeles , California , † September 12, 2009 in Brentwood , California) was an American screenwriter and television producer .

Life

Eckstein attended Stanford University and the University of California and served in the United States Army between 1953 and 1955 . In 1959 he produced the musical Billy Barnes Revue on Broadway . Since the early 1960s he has worked as a producer and screenwriter on various television series such as Rauchende Colts and Dr. Kildare . Between 1966 and 1967 he supervised the series Auf der Flucht and was co-author and producer of the final double episode, which at 72% had the highest audience rating of a series in the history of US television at the time. With the beginning of the 1970s he produced television films for the broadcaster ABC . His productions also included Duell , the first television feature film by the hitherto unknown Steven Spielberg .

Eckstein was at times a board member of the Writers Guild of America . He was married to actress Ann Guilbert between 1953 and 1966 , with whom he had two children, including actress Hallie Todd .
