history

When in 1827 the priest Gabriel Taborin who called himself Brother Gabriel, in Genay the Bishop Alexander Raymond Devie of Belley his idea of founding a Congregation submitted, this supported the activities of his brother Gabriel.

Brother Gabriel followed this suggestion and shortly afterwards placed his work under the protection of the Holy Family of Nazareth . The first teaching institute was founded in 1829 and on July 5, 1835 the first novices were dressed in the presence of the diocesan bishop of Belley . Brother Gabriel made his perpetual vow on November 3, 1838 . In 1840 the institute moved to the bishopric in Belley.

During his stay in Rome , Brother Gabriel received papal approbation from Pope Gregory XVI on August 28, 1841 . and on May 31, 1842, the King of Sardines, Carlo Alberto, appointed this congregation as an "Institute in Public Service". The French government did not follow this example until 1874.

The General Chapter first met and adopted the rules of the Order in 1852 , the first friars began their work in the United States in 1854, and the final rules were adopted and adopted in 1858. In 1889 the first four brothers moved to Uruguay and founded the first convent in South America in Montevideo .

In 1901 the fraternity was put under pressure by the French government and the religious communities were to be placed under government supervision. Many brothers are relocating to other countries, some started their work in Tunisia and set up a school and an agricultural college . In 1903 most of the brothers had to leave France, they dispersed in Italy , founded a convent in Argentina in 1908 and opened a school in Spain in 1909 . This was followed by a spread to Burkina Faso , Brazil , Colombia , Mexico to India and the Philippines by 2006 .

Today the fraternity has about 350 friars, who are divided into six provinces , they work in Europe , Africa , South America and Asia . Since 2007, Father Juan Andrés Martos Moro, who succeeded Lino Da Campo, has been Superior General of the Order.

(With prayer, work and love for peace). The range of tasks includes teaching for priests and schools, as well as teaching the catechism . The recipe for the KARIO drink made from the green walnut , developed by the friars, is still owned by the religious community today.
