Michael Emerson (born September 7, 1954 in Cedar Rapids , Iowa ) is an American actor .

Life

After completing his studies at Drake University in Iowa, Emerson went to New York in 1976 to gain a foothold as an actor. However, since he did not succeed in getting an engagement at first, he worked in various jobs, including as a freelance illustrator, until he moved to Florida in the mid-1980s. Until 1993 he was involved in several theater productions in Jacksonville as an acting teacher, director and actor.

His breakthrough as an actor had Emerson in 1997, when he was in a critically acclaimed off-Broadway the role of -Stück Oscar Wilde played. Emerson, who played frequently on television shows in addition to his theater engagements, received in 2001 a Emmy as Best Guest Star in a Drama Series for his role in Practice - The attorneys . He also made guest appearances on the X-Files and Law & Order: Special Victims Unit .

2006-2010 Emerson played the role of Benjamin Linus in the television series Lost . Initially, he was only to appear in three episodes. However, the producers were so impressed by his acting that they signed him for another five episodes and eventually transformed the character he portrayed into one of the main characters on the television series. From 2011 to 2016, Emerson starred the mysterious billionaire Mr. Finch in the crime series Person of Interest .

Michael Emerson has been married to actress Carrie Preston since 1998 , with whom he starred in the films Straight Jacket , Grace & Gloria and The Journey . Preston also starred in the television series Lost , in which she played the mother of Benjamin Linus .
