Vernon Jay "Verne" Troyer (born January 1, 1969 in Sturgis , Michigan - † April 21, 2018 in Van Nuys , Los Angeles , California ) was an American actor .

Life

At 81 centimeters tall, Troyer was a short actor who started his film career in 1993, initially with supporting roles. He became known to a wide audience for his role in the Austin Powers films Spy in a Secret Missionary Position (1999) and Austin Powers in Gold Stand . Here he embodied Mini-Me , the short clone of the villain Dr. Evil ( Mike Myers ). In 2008 he worked with Myers again on the comedy film The Love Guru .

Troyer also took on supporting roles in Men in Black (1997), Postal (2007) and as Gringotts-Kobold Griphook in Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone (2001). On television he played in 1999 in two episodes of the comedy series Shasta McNasty . In December 2007, Verne Troyer also appeared as an advertising partner for World of Warcraft . Shortly before his death, he made the comedy Hipsters, Gangsters, Aliens and Geeks .

Troyer was married to the model Genevieve Gallen from January to March 2004 . From 2007 until his death he was in a relationship with the German-American actress Brittney Powell .

Troyer, who was alcoholic , was hospitalized with alcohol poisoning at the beginning of April 2018 and died there on April 21, 2018 at the age of 49.
