Brenda Chapman

Brenda Chapman (born November 1, 1962 ) is an Oscar- winning director , screenwriter , and storyboard artist . She is also the first woman to direct an animated film , The Prince of Egypt , in 1998 .

Life

Chapman originally wanted to work in the fields of fashion design or commercial art, but then decided to move into the animation industry because she is very talented in drawing. She graduated from Cal Arts with a Bachelor of Fine Arts . During this time Chapman produced a student film that got her a job at Walt Disney and began working on her first projects there. The high point of her time at Disney was the commercially very successful film The Lion King .

After eight years, she left Disney for DreamWorks Animation , where she celebrated another highlight with The Prince of Egypt (1998).

At the urging of Joe Ranft , she moved to Pixar Animation Studios in 2003 , where she worked on the film Cars , among other things . Her greatest success to date came in 2012 with the 3D animated film Merida - Legend of the Highlands , for which she worked as a director and screenwriter and won the Oscar in the category Best Animated Feature Film in 2013.

Chapman and her husband, director Kevin Lima , have a daughter, actress Emma Rose Lima .
