The Making of Longbird is a 2011 British partially animated short film directed by Will Anderson .

action

The Russian cartoon pioneer Vladislav Aleksandravich Feltov once created the legendary character of the Long Bird , an extra-long bird that lived through situations in black and white with normal-sized birds. Much of Feltov's work, including most of Longbird's recordings, burned in a fire. Will Anderson now wants to rediscover Feltov and continue the story of Longbird with modern technology, even if he wants to use cut-out animation like Feltov once did. The company turns out to be difficult because Longbird, once brought to life or animated, reacts extremely surly. With a strong Russian accent, he makes it clear to Anderson that he is nothing, has no idea of Russian culture and cannot even produce a script. When Longbird still sneered at Anderson's way of working after 37 minutes, the director cuts him with scissors. Longbird loudly complains that Feltov never treated him like that.

The days go by with different character variations, working on the script, and trying to control Longbird's behavior according to the script, which turns out to be impossible. If Longbird is in marked traffic, he refuses to cross the street until he is run over by an animated car and his paper exterior crumples. Anderson keeps leaving the animation studio, leaving the bird behind, which begins to sing in the silence. However, the director does not give up and tries numerous fashion variations to make the black, long longbird look more attractive. The bird always replies that the attempts are not funny. A video of Longbirds on an Internet platform confirms the bird's suspicion - the video is hardly viewed, but receives scathing comments. Anderson has enough and he leaves. He leaves the calling Longbird in the studio alone with a smoldering cigarette. As it is written in the script next to it, the cigarette burns down and causes a fire that also kills the questioning and calling bird.
