Joanna Johnston is a British costume designer who was nominated for an Oscar in 2013 and 2017 .

Johnston began in the film business in 1978 as an assistant costume designer. From 1987 she was then responsible as a costume designer, where she performed this function for the first time for the horror film Hellraiser - The Gate to Hell . In 1989 and 1990 Johnston designed the costumes for Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade , Back to the Future II and III and was then nominated for three Saturn Awards in 1991 . She has worked with Steven Spielberg and Robert Zemeckis seven times. In 2009 she received another nomination for the Saturn Award, due to her costume design for the biopic Operation Walküre - The Stauffenberg Assassination . In 2012 Johnston was hired for the film drama Lincoln . A year later, she received a BAFTA Award nomination for her work and her first Oscar nomination for Best Costume Design . Johnston received another Oscar and BAFTA nomination for Allied - Confidant Strangers (2016).
