Genndy Tartakovsky ( Russian Дженнди Тартаковски , maiden name: Russian Геннадий Борисович Тартаковский , Gennady Borisovich Tartakowski * 17th January 1970 in Moscow , Soviet Union ) is a in the United States active animator , director , storyboard artist , producer , screenwriter , comic book writer and Artist .

Life

Born in Russia, he went to Chicago with his parents at the age of seven . He studied film at Chicago Columbia College and animation at the California Institute of the Arts. Tartakovsky's early career as an animator included working on various series such as Batman: The Animated Series and The Critic . He later worked on the storyboard for Hanna - Barbera's 2 Stupid Dogs .

Tartakovsky is known for his work as a screenwriter and producer on the series Dexter's Laboratory and Samurai Jack . Dexter's lab grew out of a student film he produced at the California Institute of the Arts. He also supported the production of the series Powerpuff Girls , of which he also directed several episodes, as well as Powerpuff Girls: The Movie . In 2003 he produced the Star Wars Micro-Series in which the period of the Clone Wars is a theme. Instead of usually having ten or twenty minutes, like Dexter's lab or Samurai Jack , the Clone Wars episodes were only three minutes long.

In 2011 Tartakovsky switched to Sony Pictures Animation and was the director of the animated film Hotel Transylvania , which was released in German cinemas on October 25, 2012. Its successor was released in 2015. The third part, Hotel Transylvania 3 - A Monster Vacation , was released in July 2018.
