Peter Ramsay

Peter A. Ramsey (born December 23, 1962 in Crenshaw , Los Angeles ) is an American film director , illustrator and screenwriter.

Life

Peter Ramsey grew up in Crenshaw, Los Angeles. He graduated from Palisades Charter High School. He then studied painting for two years at the University of California, Los Angeles and later attended Los Angeles City College , where he took film courses.

In Hollywood he began working on storyboards for films such as Predator 2 (1990), Tank Girl (1995), Independence Day (1996), Men in Black (1997) and AI - Artificial Intelligence (2001). He was also a Second Unit Director at Tank Girl, Poetic Justice , Higher Learning and Godzilla .

Tank Girl producer Aron Warner persuaded him to join DreamWorks Animation . For this he created the scripts for Shrek the Third (2007) and Shrek - Oh du Shrekliche (2008) as a story artist .

In 2009 he first worked as a director for the short film Monsters vs Aliens: Mutant Pumpkins from Space (2009). He also directed The Guardians of the Light (2012), an animated film based on the book series The Rise of the Guardians by William Joyce . He became the first black artist to direct a blockbuster animated film.

In 2018 Spider-Man: A New Universe followed , which together with its co-directors Bob Persichetti and Rodney Rothman earned him an Oscar in the category of Best Animated Film .
