The Roboexotica (also: Roböxotica ) is since 1999 held no contributions Vienna festival for cocktail - robotics . Artists, researchers, technicians and hobbyists from all over the world come together once a year in Vienna to present robots and equipment that can mix or serve cocktails. The festival is organized by the group monochrom in cooperation with Shifz . Johannes Grenzfurthner and Günther Friesinger are currently running the event.

The festival was featured in numerous international media such as Slashdot , Wired News , Reuters , New York Times , CNet , Boing Boing and New Scientist .

Philosophy and history

The festival was started by Magnus Wurzer and Chris Veigl in 1999 and transformed into an international festival in 2002 through the cooperation with monochrom and the Büro für Philosophie . The requirement 'robots mixing cocktails' is an ironically broken statement. In addition to the practical presentation of machines, the event also deals on a philosophical level with technology hypes, belief in science, the sociology of technology and the historical changes in technology presentation and marketing. V. Vale says of Roboexotica that it is "an ironic attempt to criticize techno-triumphalism and dissect technological hypes."

The "Annual Cocktail Robot Award" presented at this festival honors skills in the following categories:

  • serving cocktails (serving cocktails)
  • mixing cocktails (mixing)
  • bartending conversation (conducting bar conversations)
  • 3D printed paraphernalia (printing of an object that can be used in the environment of bars and cocktails)
  • bar food (production of food / dishes)
  • other achievements in the sector of cocktail culture

Roboexotica was also held as a guest festival in San Francisco in 2008 and 2009 and inspired the subsidiary Barbot festival .
