history

Boing Boing was first published as a magazine by Mark Frauenfelder and Carla Sinclair in 1988. Despite a relatively high level of awareness and influence on the cyberpunk scene, sales were stopped after the publisher went bankrupt.

Frauenfelder, author of Wired magazine, decided to restart Boing Boing in 1995, but as a website . In January 2000 the website was converted into a blog. It was followed by other authors who also wrote for Wired. The authors include Cory Doctorow , David Pescovitz, and Xeni Jardin. In addition to the posts of the regular group of bloggers, guest posts by other bloggers are also published.

The popularity of the weblog increased enormously and Boing Boing became one of the most visited blogs. It has around three million visitors a month and around 600,000 web feed subscribers. In 2004 and 2005 it won the “Bloggies” weblog award for best American and best group blog, and in 2006 it was nominated for the Webby Awards .

In 2007 Boing Boing was expanded and now has a special weblog about "gadgets" and a video blog called "Boing Boing TV".
