Adolf Wagner von der Mühl (born February 2, 1884 in Rohrbach as Adolf Wagner , † August 27, 1962 in Vienna ) was an Austrian sculptor .

Live and act

Adolf Wagner von der Mühl was born in the Mühlviertel in Upper Austria . He completed his training as a sculptor at the academy in Munich and Vienna , where he then worked as a freelance academic sculptor.

In 1910 he received the Dumba Prize for the sculpture Mutterglück and the Gundel Prize for his crucifix , and in 1912 the Rome Prize for the stone sculpture Berggeist on the Guglrondeau in Linz . The life-size linden wood group Jesus and the children , which is located in the church in Leonding , also dates from this time . In 1915 he donated the larger-than-life wooden "Wehrmann" to Linz for war widows and orphans ( Nordico City Museum ). From 1922 he called himself Wagner von der Mühl in appreciation of his home in the Mühlviertel. From 1923 he belonged to the artists ' association Künstlerhaus Wien and was also a member of the Innviertel artists' guild . His life-size bronze blessing Christ on the Hofer tomb in Steyr and on the parents' grave in Rohrbach is from that time. After 1920 he made small bronzes, many of which went overseas. T. can be found in the Internet trade. In 1923 he created the life-size Pietà made of white marble for the Friedenskirche in Linz-Urfahr, which is unique in its representation. From 1934 he also had a teaching position for modeling at the Vienna University of Technology . In 1941 he made a terracotta bust of Stefan Fadinger for the Linz State Museum . In 1949 he was awarded the title of professor . Until 1960 he made some house signs for new buildings in Vienna such as the potter , the Pied Piper from Hameln , Adler, Falke, Auerhahn and others. a. He also donated two of his wood engravings (peasant dance, Madonna) to the Linz State Museum as a thank you for supporting him in his time-typical emergency without sculpting commissions.

Adolf Wagner von der Mühl died on August 27, 1962 and was buried in the Vienna Central Cemetery. However, only one relative is noted on the tombstone. In Rohrbach-Berg the Wagner-von-der-Mühl-Straße was named after him.
