history

In 1927 the decision was made to build a second parish church in Urfahr next to the Urfahr Josefskirche . With designs by the architects Hans Feichtlbauer from 1927 and from 1931 by Peter Behrens and Alexander Popp and the formation of a collaboration, the first construction phase was from 1933 to 1934 with a baptismal and war memorial chapel (today the Friedenskapelle) and the entrance area of the future nave as a temporary emergency church erected and in 1934 a parish exposition began. With a change in the plans with architect Hans Foschum , the nave became lower and a yoke shorter, the independent tower became the choir tower, the nave and tower were built from 1949 to 1951 and the church was elevated to a parish church in 1952. In 1971 the weekday chapel was added. From 1997 to 1999, the sacristy was renewed and a parish hall was built according to plans by architects Wolfgang Schaffer and Alfred Sturm.

The Christ the King fresco in the chancel was designed by Max Weiler . The round window on the choir and the windows of the Friedenskapelle are by Alfred Stifter , those in the main nave and in the baptistery by Lydia Roppolt . The Stations of the Cross are by Leo Sebastian Humer . The organ comes from Wilhelm Zika and was consecrated in 1957.

The ringing consists of 4 bronze bells that were cast in the St. Florian bell foundry : Christ the King bell (2,005 kg), tone "c"; Marien-Bell (1,118 kg), sound "es"; Joseph's bell (804 kg), tone "f"; Christophorus bell (469 kg), sound "as".

In the Friedenskapelle there is a life-size Pietà made of white marble - in the shape of the Mother of Sorrows, the body of Jesus lies at her feet - by Adolf Wagner von der Mühl , which is unique in its representation.

The concerts held in the church under Eduard Matscheko are widely recognized .
