The Urfahrer Joseph's Church is a Roman Catholic parish church in the district of Urfahr in Linz . The church is raised on the Danube right next to the Ars Electronica Center .

At the site of a 1681 Kapuzinerorden built Hospitiums a Capuchin monastery church was built with 1690 to 1694 and dedicated to the 1,702th The monastery was closed under Emperor Joseph II. The monastery church became the parish church of Urfahr in 1784. The reminiscence with the parish church is reminiscent of Urfahr as an independent parish, which was elevated to a market town in 1808 and a town in 1882, and became part of Linz in 1919. The former cloister garden with cloister walls made of quarry stones became today's cemetery .

The simple church building typical of the Capuchins has a single nave, barrel vaulted nave and a retracted lower barrel vaulted rectangular choir . To the south of the nave is a side chapel as a baptistery with a corridor to the choir and a sacristy at the choir. A corridor to the former monastery is built to the north of the choir. After it was elevated to a parish church, the choir was expanded from 1789 to 1790 to include the former monks' choir. From 1791 to 1793, a baroque-classical main facade with a facade tower was built according to the plans of Franz Xaver Martinelli. After a fire in 1833, the tower was given an onion dome with a lantern. There is an inaccessible crypt under the nave.

The historicist wall structure inside the church was designed by the master builder Michael Riedl in 1884. Two glass windows with neo-baroque decor are from 1900. The ornamental glass windows of the baptistery were created in 1976 by the painter Rudolf Kolbitsch . The wall paintings in the nave and choir from 1884 to 1887 by the painter Max Gehri were whitewashed.

For reasons of economy, the Capuchins transferred numerous furnishings from other churches. The altar from 1654 was transferred from the demolished Franz Xaver Chapel of the Jesuit College in Linz. The altarpiece Holy Family was painted in 1694 by Johann Karl von Reslfeld .
