Stanislaus Czerniewicz

Stanislaw Czerniewicz SJ (* 15. August 1728 in Kaunas , † 7 July . Jul / 18th July  1785 greg. In Staiki ) was vicar general of the Society of Jesus in Russia.

Life

The Jesuit order was banned by Pope Clement XIV in 1773 , and after the death of the 18th order general Lorenzo Ricci in 1775 it took a few years for the order to be approved by Pius VI. got to continue his work in Russia and elect a new head (with the title of vicar general ). On October 17, 1782, Stanislaw Czerniewicz was chosen.

The Russian Tsarina Catherine the Great confirmed Czerniewicz in his office. He died on July 7th . / July 18, 1785 greg. .
