Fernanda Montenegro
Fernanda Montenegro (* 16th October 1929 in Rio de Janeiro as Arlette Pinheiro Esteves da Silva ) is a Brazilian actress .
Montenegro is considered the great lady of Brazilian cinema and television . She became known worldwide through the film Central Station by Walter Salles , for which she received the Silver Bear at the 1998 Berlinale . The film also won the festival . In 1999 she received a Golden Globe nomination for this film for best actress in a drama and was nominated for an Oscar as the first Brazilian actress . In 2007 she played in the US film version of the novelLove in the times of cholera .
She was married to actor Fernando Torres from 1954 to 2008 . Fernando Torres died on September 4, 2008. Their children, Fernanda Torres and Claudio Torres, are actress and director, respectively.
