Virginia McKenna (born June 7, 1931 in London ) is a British theater and film actress and founder of the Born Free Foundation .

Life

Virginia McKenna trained at drama school and began her career in the theater, but soon found her way to film. She was internationally known with the film Free Born - Queen of the Wild , in which she played the naturalist Joy Adamson . Animals were also the focus of the plot in other films made in East Africa. Virginia McKenna's first marriage to actor Denholm Elliott lasted only eight months. The second marriage to Bill Travers , also a fellow actor, had four children. In 1984 McKenna founded the Zoo Check Campaign with her second husband and son to critically examine zoos . On July 20, 1998, the Born Free Foundation was officially founded.
