Geraldine Page
Geraldine Sue Page (born November 22, 1924 in Kirksville , Missouri , † June 13, 1987 in New York City ) was an American actress .
Life
Geraldine Page was married to the violinist Alexander Schneider from 1954 to 1957. In 1963 she married her colleague Rip Torn , with whom she had three children. She died on June 13, 1987, to a heart attack while on Broadway in a performance of the play Blithe Spirit (Blithe Spirit) of Noël Coward was on stage.
Career
In addition to her film appearances, Geraldine Page made a name for herself as a stage actress and is widely regarded in the United States as the greatest American actress of all time. In 1947 she first appeared in front of the camera in Out of the Night . In 1962, she starred alongside Paul Newman in the film adaptation of Tennessee Williams -Stückes Sweet Bird of Youth (Sweet Bird of Youth) , for which she received one of her numerous Oscar nominations. But it wasn't until 1986, after a total of seven unsuccessful nominations, that she was awarded the Oscar for best leading actress in the film A Trip to Bountiful with the eighth nomination . She received a two-minute standing ovation during the award ceremony .
