Valerie Ritchie Perrine (born September 3, 1943 in Galveston , Texas ) is an American actress .

Life

Valerie Perrine is the daughter of a Lieutenant Colonel in the United States Army and a dancer. She started out as a showgirl in Las Vegas . In 1973 she wrote a piece of American television history with the first unveiled shower scene in the theater film Steambath by Bruce Jay Friedman .

Perrine made her first small film appearance in 1971 in the James Bond film Diamond Fever . In 1974 she made her international breakthrough alongside Dustin Hoffman in Lenny . For the role of Honey Bruce she was nominated for the Oscar , the Golden Globe and the British Film Awards for Best Actress . She won the British Film Awards for Best New Actress . At the Cannes International Film Festival in 1975 , Perrine received the award for Best Actress . However, Valerie Perrine was never able to build on this great success.
