Members of the Bloco Filhos de Gandhy

Filhos de Gandhy (Eng. "Sons of Gandhi") are members of a Brazilian carnival block (bloco). As Afoxé -Bloco, they take part in the carnival in Salvador da Bahia with several thousand participants .

Filhos de Gandhy was founded on February 18, 1949 and was the only carnival group in Salvador to play Afro-Brazilian music until the Bloco afro Ilê Aiyê was formed in 1974 . The naming after Mahatma Gandhi should programmatically take up the principle of non-violence. The roots of Afoxé music lie in the Afro-Brazilian religion Candomblé , whose music the Bloco wanted to take to the streets. The group is traditionally dressed in white with blue turbans, which are dedicated to the Candomblé gods Oxalá and Ogún .

The Filhos de Gandhy are still the best-known Afoxé-Bloco Salvador, the association has several thousand members.
