SOCOM is a computer game series from the Japanese console manufacturer and publisher Sony Computer Entertainment , which is relocating the brand for its PlayStation product family.
description
All offshoots of the SOCOM series are tactical shooters in real time , which are played from a third-person perspective . The title is derived from the United States Special Operations Command (SOCOM), a comprehensive command system for all military special forces in the United States. In the game, the player takes command of a task force of the United States Navy SEALs , with whom he carries out various secret missions all over the world, for example in the fight against terrorists and rebel troops.
The first title SOCOM: US Navy SEALs was designed by the US development studio Zipper Interactive and published in 2002 for the PlayStation 2 . 2006 Zipper was taken over by Sony. From 2002 until its closure by the parent company in 2012, the company developed six further series offshoots for the PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Portable consoles . Three other titles between 2007 and 2010 were produced by the independent Canadian developer Slant Six Games .
