The Qiandao Lake ( Chinese 千島湖 - "Lake of a Thousand Islands") is a reservoir in Chun'an County , Zhejiang Province , People's Republic of China . The lake has a water surface of 573 km² and takes 17.8 km³ of water. The average depth is 34 m. 1078 larger islands are distributed in the lake. The banks are very irregular. ( Fig. ) The water temperature is a constant 25 ° C.
The dam has a height of 105 m and a length of 466.5 m, the hydropower plant has an installed capacity of 845 MW . The inflow comes from the Xin'an Jiang , an upper reaches of the Qiantang River . On the lakeshore, in Qiandaohu, is the Hangzhou Qiandaohu Beer Co., Ltd. brewery, which gets its brewing water from the lake.
history
The lake was flooded in September 1959 to power the Xin'an hydropower plant. The city of Shi Cheng ("Lion City") from the time of the Eastern Han Dynasty (25-220 AD) is located at the foot of Mount Wu Shi . Shi Cheng is now at a depth of 26 to 40 meters.
The ancient city is well preserved, including many houses, three city gates and, for the most part, the city wall.
