In 1694 he was also elevated to the Earl of Romney . The titles expired when he died childless on April 8, 1704.

In the second bestowal on June 3, 1753 in the Peerage of Ireland, the title Baron Milton , of Shronehill in the County of Tipperary , was created for the House of Commons Joseph Damer . On May 10, 1762 the same was awarded the title Baron Milton , of Milton Abbey in the County of Dorset , in the Peerage of Great Britain . In contrast to the Irish barony, a hereditary seat in the House of Lords was connected with the British barony , which excluded a simultaneous seat in the House of Commons . Lord Milton was also elevated to Earl of Dorchester and Viscount Milton on May 18, 1792 in the Peerage of Great Britain . The titles expired when his son, the 2nd Earl, died unmarried and childless in 1808.
