American Steel is an American punk rock band from Oakland . They got their name from a sign on a warehouse. After they only played at parties and in smaller places at first, they bought a van with which they planned their first USA tour.
They signed their first contract in the spring of 1999 and released Rogue's March in October 1999. The recording process was intermittent, due to Ryan's initial diagnosis and early battle with leukemia. After 2001 the album Jagged Thoughts followed . In May 2002 the band broke up and only reunited in 2005.
On October 2, 2007, they released their album Destroy Their Future . They toured Europe with Alkaline Trio in summer 2008 and with Donots in autumn 2008. In March 2009 they announced the recording for the album Dear Friends and Gentle Hearts . They released the album on July 21, 2009 on Fat Wreck Chords .
