OPM is an American band from the state of California . Her music style is a mixture of hip-hop , pop and relaxed reggae . Her best known single is the debut single "Heaven Is a Halfpipe" from the album "Menace to Sobriety" (alluding to the term " menace to society "). Both were released by Atlantic Records in September 2000.

Band history

At the time of the release of the album Menace To Sobriety , the band consisted of only three permanent members, namely Matthew Meschery aka Shakey Lo the Kreation Kid (vocals, keyboards, programming), John Edney aka johne. Necro (vocals) and Geoff Turney aka Casper (guitar). For the tour, the band was reinforced by other musicians.

After the Menace To Sobriety tour, the until then very creative and influential band member Matthew separated from the band. For all songs on the Menace To Sobriety album, Matthew was involved in both the songwriting and (speaking) singer. There are no public statements about the exact reasons for the separation. The fact that after Matthew's departure is not even mentioned in the official band's biography seems a bit strange. Matthew now works for KQED radio station in San Francisco.

Despite the successful album, the band split from the record company Atlantic and signed a contract with Suburban Noize Records in 2004 because they were unsatisfied with Atlantic's time management. Band member John E said on this subject: "They'd spent so much to promote the first album, that we thought everything was a go with the second record. But they kept sending us back into the studio… we wrote over 50 songs while waiting for the label to make a move. We finally got to the point where we realized that we needed more attention than they were giving us, so we started working on getting out of our deal. "

The second studio album , Forthemasses (a pun on the two sentences "for the masses" and "for them asses") was released in June 2005. The album was produced by OPM and Steve Gallagher , who has worked with Sugar Ray and Cypress Hill .

In July 2006, a new album called California Poppy was released. In addition to the two original band members John and Geoff, there are currently four other permanent members: Big B (vocals), Matt (bass), Jonathan (keyboard) and Carlos (drums).
