Auderville is a village and a former French commune with 235 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Manche department in the Normandy region . It belonged to the Arrondissement of Cherbourg and the Canton of La Hague .

With effect from January 1, 2017, the previous municipality of Auderville was merged with the other 18 municipalities of the former Communauté de communes de la Hague to form a Commune nouvelle called La Hague and has the status of Commune déléguée in the new municipality . The administrative headquarters are in Beaumont-Hague.

Auderville was the most western Norman parish.
The place Auderville is located on the northwest side of Cape La Hague on the English Channel , 800 meters west of the former neighboring municipality of Saint-Germain-des-Vaux and 24 kilometers northwest of Cherbourg-Octeville . The hamlets of La Roche , La Haye and Goury belonged to the municipality. Off the coast of La Hague runs in the Strait of Alderney , one of the strongest tidal currents in Europe.
The community was on the Cotentin peninsula , in the Armorican massif, north of Jobourg . Cadomian granites come to the fore.

history

Attractions

The Phare de la Hague was built in 1834 by Charles-Félix Morice de la Rue (1800-1880). It has served as a lighthouse since 1837. He is 52 meters high. The lighting system was changed several times. Auderville is surrounded by pastures, fields and the sea. Important branches of the Audervillais are the breeding of domestic cattle and domestic sheep. There is a small port and a station of the Société Nationale de Sauvetage en Mer (National Sea Rescue Society) in Goury. There are several chambre d'hôtes (guest rooms) in Auderville .
