In 1675 he became the personal physician of the Countess Palatine von Simmern, who had been widowed since 1674 . Hert had to follow the widow, who was born as Princess of Orange, to Holland, but returned to Hesse after her death in 1688. In 1692, Landgrave Ernst Ludwig von Hessen-Darmstadt appointed him personal physician. In 1694 Hert became Primarius (first professor) of medicine at the University of Gießen (Darmstadt). Hert was also a personal physician in the Fulda and Kurmainzer services. In 1731 he died during a visit to Butzbach.
